HEALTH AND SAFETY LEGISLATION
THE HEALTH AND SAFETY IN EMPLOYMENT ACT 1992
Can you afford to ignore workplace stress?
Are you meeting your obligations as an employer under the new legislation?
Effective 5 May 2003, the amended Act states that stress may be either the cause or result of hazards in the workplace and requires employers to :
| • |
identify such hazards |
| • |
manage those hazards |
| • |
provide training or supervision so that work is done safely |
| • |
monitor the health of employees to ensure that their work is not having a detrimental effect upon them |
| • |
provide opportunities for employees to participate in all of the above |
"Employers can be liable and face penalties for stress and fatigue."
